The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully arrested 165 suspected illegal immigrants, handing them over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and legal action. The operation, carried out on January 31, 2025, was based on intelligence that led security operatives to uncover the presence of over 200 individuals residing in a three-bedroom flat in the Kuwait area of Birnin Kebbi.
At approximately 5:00 PM, a team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided the premises and apprehended 165 of the occupants. Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals arrested were primarily from Francophone West African countries, including Burkina Faso (35), Benin Republic (11), Niger Republic (5), Mali (4), and Ivory Coast (110).
Further investigation revealed that none of the arrested individuals possessed valid travel documents. Additionally, they were reportedly involved in the Qnet Ponzi scheme, a fraudulent investment platform notorious for deceiving unsuspecting individuals.
Following the completion of the preliminary inquiry, the Kebbi State Police Command transferred the suspects to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigations and necessary legal actions. In their statement, the police reassured the public of their commitment to upholding security and enforcing immigration laws, urging residents to report any suspicious activities in their communities.
