Kogi Monarch Returns Home Safely Following Kidnapping and ₦100 Million Ransom Payment
Oba James Dada Ogunyanda, the Obalohun of Okoloke in Yagba West, Kogi State, has been released after being kidnapped from his palace on May 15, 2025. A substantial ransom, reportedly ₦100 million, was paid for his freedom. The monarch returned to his community on a motorbike, greeted with celebrations and relief.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the abduction, which involved armed bandits overpowering palace guards. Following the incident, a joint task force comprising security personnel and local vigilantes was deployed to locate the kidnappers and secure the Oba’s release.
Yagba West Local Government Chairman Tosin Olokun condemned the abduction, calling it an attack on cultural values and peace. He assured the community of ongoing coordinated security efforts to combat banditry and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperative.
