Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly gathered on Monday for a valedictory session in honor of the late former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Enema Paul. The late Paul passed away on December 14, 2024, after a prolonged illness.
During the session, lawmakers took turns to praise their late colleague, reflecting on his significant contributions to the development of Kogi State.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Yusuf, expressed heartfelt tributes, describing Enema Paul as a man with exceptional qualities and leadership. “This was a man of uncommon characteristics, an individual with unique features that set him apart,” said Yusuf. He added that Paul’s death has left a deep void among his colleagues, family, and the broader Kogi community.
Yusuf noted Paul’s significant service in both his role as a former Commissioner and as Deputy Speaker, emphasizing his integrity, wisdom, and dedication to public service. He praised Paul’s commitment to justice, fairness, and equity, highlighting the legislative strides Paul made to ensure that every citizen’s voice was heard within the chambers of the House.
Beyond his political achievements, Yusuf reflected on Paul’s role as a mentor, describing him as approachable and humble—qualities that endeared him to everyone he worked with.
“As we bid farewell to this exceptional leader, we are reminded of the legacy he has left behind—a legacy of service, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the betterment of society,” Yusuf said. “This hallowed chamber shall not remain the same without him.”
Yusuf also acknowledged Paul’s vital role in mentoring younger lawmakers, particularly those new to the legislative process. “His experience as a two-term lawmaker has taught many, who are having their legislative baptism, the proper manners of approaching activities in this arm of government,” he concluded.
The session served as a tribute to Paul’s lasting impact, with lawmakers expressing that while he may no longer be with them, his legacy would continue to inspire future generations. The assembly’s thoughts and prayers were extended to his family during this difficult time.
