Kwara Government Cracks Down on Coaching Centres Poaching Students
The Kwara State Government has sent a strong warning to proprietors of coaching centres involved in the unlawful practice of poaching students from public schools under the guise of preparing them for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Saka Yusuf, the Executive Director of the Agency for Mass Education, expressed his concerns in a statement issued by the agency’s Press Secretary, Rasheedat Anigilaje, on Wednesday in Ilorin. Yusuf revealed that despite repeated government efforts to raise awareness, some coaching centres continue to violate regulations.
He specifically condemned the practice where students are taken from schools and re-registered as conventional students at coaching centres, describing it as an outright violation of the state’s education ordinance. “This practice is unacceptable and directly undermines the integrity of the educational system,” Yusuf said.
The executive director further warned that such actions disrupt students’ academic development and could severely harm their future prospects. “Coaching centres should not be engaged in the unlawful practice of removing students from schools. They should instead support the government’s ongoing efforts to improve education standards in the state,” he added.
The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to enforcing education policies and vowed that violators of these regulations would face appropriate sanctions.
