Kwara Police Confirm Murder of Retired Federal Official AbdulRazaq Ajani on New Year’s Day
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of AbdulRazaq Ajani, a retired Controller of Works at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, who was murdered on New Year’s Day in Ilorin, the state capital.
The incident took place around 3 p.m. on Dele Gege Street, off Awolowo Road in the Tanke area, shortly after Ajani returned home with his wife and children from a trip to his hometown, Offa.
CCTV footage from the scene captured the chilling moment when four young men, believed to be between the ages of 18 and 22, casually entered the compound of Ajani’s residence right after he had parked his car. Two of the assailants stood near the gate, with one drinking from a plastic bottle, while the other two walked deeper into the compound.
Ajani, who had noticed the intruders from a ground-floor sitting room, approached the door to engage them. What initially appeared to be a brief conversation quickly escalated into violence. The men attacked him with small axes as his family members looked on in horror.
After the brutal assault, the attackers fled the scene, leaving the family and neighbors in a state of shock and disbelief.
In a statement confirming the killing, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, said, “No arrests have been made at this time. Our detectives are working tirelessly to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”
The police spokesperson also extended their condolences to the Ajani family, stating, “We pray that God Almighty consoles and comforts members of the family left behind, and we pray for the repose of the soul of their beloved father (Ajani Adeyemo) Amen.”
Ejire-Adeyemi assured the public that those responsible for the brutal murder will face the full wrath of the law. The police also pledged to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
