“Labour Party Announces April 5, 2025, for Anambra Governorship Primaries”
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party (LP) has announced that the party’s gubernatorial primaries for the 2025 Anambra State governorship election will take place on April 5, 2025. The party’s National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Ibrahim, the timetable for the 2025 Anambra State gubernatorial primaries reveals that the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms will begin on Monday, February 10, 2025. Meanwhile, delegates’ forms will be available for sale starting March 20, 2025.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, also issued a statement, advising interested aspirants to visit the party’s National Headquarters to obtain the guidelines for the primaries and other relevant information.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier announced that the Anambra State Governorship Election is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025. This was confirmed by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during the fourth regular consultative meeting with political party leaders. He explained that, as stipulated in Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, the notice for the election must be issued no later than 360 days before the scheduled election date, which applies to both general and off-cycle governorship elections.
Yakubu also stated that the formal notice for the election will be published on November 13, 2024. The period for party primaries will run from March 20, 2025, to April 10, 2025. The nomination portal for candidates will open at 9:00 am on April 18, 2025, and close at 6:00 pm on May 12, 2025.
The final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, and political parties’ public campaigns will begin on June 11, 2025, and end by midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
