Lagos APC Crisis: Oki Appeals for Unity and Legislative Autonomy
A prominent chieftain of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Fouad Oki, has urged the party leadership to grant the legislative arm of the state independence in the wake of the ongoing Speakership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
In an open letter, Oki acknowledged that mistakes were made in the approach to engaging the party leadership prior to the removal of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa. However, he emphasized that the decision to remove Obasa has now become a “fait accompli” and urged the party to move forward.
Oki appealed to the party leadership to exercise reason and allow the legislature to function independently, stressing that further polarization of the party could have detrimental effects on its internal cohesion and unity.
He also highlighted the critical role of public opinion and community support in shaping political decisions, warning that ignoring the sentiments of the people could lead to political instability that would endanger the party’s standing and unity in Lagos State.
By calling for autonomy in the legislative arm, Oki aims to prevent further divisions within the party while ensuring that the state’s political environment remains stable and focused on its long-term goals.
