Lagos Assembly Drama Unfolds in Court: 35 Lawmakers Face Legal Showdown
Tensions in the Lagos State House of Assembly reached a boiling point on Friday morning, as 35 members of the House arrived at the Ikeja High Court for a highly anticipated legal hearing. The case, which continues to grip the state’s political scene, centers around the legal challenge mounted by Mudashiru Obasa, who is contesting his removal as the Speaker of the Assembly.
The case, which was scheduled for hearing on Friday, marks another chapter in the ongoing power struggle within the Assembly. Obasa was unseated from his position while on a trip to the United States just a few weeks ago, with his colleagues electing Hon. Mojisola Meranda to take over his duties.
The battle took an intense turn when Obasa returned to the Assembly on Thursday, declaring his comeback as Speaker despite Meranda’s election.
Presiding over the proceedings in the courtroom is Hon. Justice Y.R. Pinheiro, who will ultimately decide the fate of the leadership crisis in the Lagos House.
