Lagos Group Rejects Minister’s Claim on Seyi Tinubu’s 2027 Governorship Bid
On Tuesday, the De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, a group of Lagos natives, strongly criticized the recent remarks made by the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, in which he suggested that Seyi Tinubu is fit to lead Lagos State in 2027. The group dismissed the statement as “careless” and made it clear that such views do not reflect the opinions of the people of Lagos State.
De Renaissance Patriots Slams Minister for Endorsing Seyi Tinubu as Lagos Governor
In a statement issued by its media office, the foundation expressed disapproval of the minister’s interview, asserting that the claim was an individual perspective and not representative of the views of Lagos residents across all five divisions of the state: Epe, Lagos, Badagry, Ikeja, and Ikorodu. They emphasized that Seyi Tinubu, while publicly discussed, does not have roots in any of these divisions and, by extension, is not a native of Lagos State.

The group firmly stated that while other states may welcome Seyi Tinubu and his contributions, Lagos should not be governed by someone they consider an outsider. “We, the youths of Lagos State, have the capability to govern ourselves, and we say no to Mr. Seyi Tinubu,” the statement declared, reinforcing that the leadership of the state should come from its own people, not from individuals with no direct ties to its communities.
Lagos Group Warns Against Imposing Seyi Tinubu as Governor, Calls for Local Leadership
The foundation also accused some elders of betraying the people by aligning with the current government to support external leadership. They warned Seyi Tinubu not to be swayed by those encouraging him to pursue the governorship, asserting that Lagos is no longer open to such impositions. “Lagos State has more than enough sons and daughters to stand for the role of governor,” they stated. The group further urged that if Seyi Tinubu wished to run for office, he should consider Osun or Oyo states, where his family has roots. The foundation concluded by emphasizing that Nigeria is not ready for imperial rule or a monarchy, and Lagos must remain in the hands of its own people.
