Lagos Group Rejects Minister’s Support for Seyi Tinubu as Governor in 2027
A group of Lagos natives, De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, on Tuesday, criticized the recent remarks made by the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, who claimed that Seyi Tinubu is fit to lead Lagos State in 2027.
In a statement issued by its media office, the group described the minister’s statement as careless and clarified that it does not represent the views of the people of Lagos State. “We condemn the careless statement made by the Minister for Youth, and we regard it as his own opinion and not a reflection of the people across the five divisions of Lagos State—Epe, Lagos, Badagry, Ikeja, and Ikorodu,” the statement read.
The group further emphasized that Mr. Seyi Tinubu is not a native of any of the divisions in Lagos State. “Mr. Seyi Tinubu is not from Lagos State and cannot lay claim to any of its divisions, whether Epe, Badagry, Lagos, Ikeja, or Ikorodu,” they stated.
The foundation made it clear that while other states in Nigeria may choose to seek his leadership, Lagos youths, who believe in their own capacity to govern, are firmly opposed to Mr. Seyi Tinubu as a gubernatorial candidate. They also warned against attempts by some elders to sell the state’s future to the government of the day.
The statement continued: “While some elders may be swayed by personal interests, we, the vibrant youths of Lagos State, will resist any attempt to impose Mr. Seyi Tinubu as the governor of our state.”
The group reminded Seyi Tinubu that Lagos is no longer a place where the state can be easily sold to external influences. “If Seyi qualifies to run for the gubernatorial race, so be it, but he should consider contesting in Osun or Oyo State, where his mother hails from,” they said.
In conclusion, the foundation reaffirmed that Lagos State has enough sons and daughters capable of leading, and that Nigeria is not ready for imperial or monarchical rule. “Lagos State throne is not for the picking anymore,” they stressed.
