Lagos School Suspends Teacher for Assaulting Three-Year-Old Pupil in Shocking Video
Christ Mitots School, located in Ikorodu, Lagos, has indefinitely suspended one of its teachers, Stella Nwadigo, after a video surfaced showing her assaulting a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, during a numeracy lesson. The disturbing footage, which quickly spread on social media, shows the teacher physically smacking the young child for struggling with the lesson. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, leading to Nwadigo’s arrest on Wednesday.
In a statement, the school condemned the teacher’s actions, labeling them as entirely unacceptable. The management emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for students.
“We are aware of a deeply troubling incident involving one of our teachers and a student, which has been circulating on social media,” the statement read. “The video shows a teacher engaging in physical discipline of a student in a manner that is completely unacceptable and contrary to the values and principles of our school.”
The school reiterated that such behavior would not be tolerated and confirmed that Nwadigo would remain suspended while a thorough investigation is conducted. The management assured the public that it adheres to a strict zero-tolerance policy towards any form of misconduct and remains committed to protecting the well-being of every child.
“We extend our sincerest apologies to the student and their family,” the statement continued. “We have personally reached out to them to offer our support and ensure that their needs are fully addressed.”
In response to the incident, the school has announced plans to organize mandatory training for its staff to reinforce child protection protocols, emphasize positive disciplinary practices, and enhance sensitivity in student interactions. Additionally, a confidential whistle-blowing system has been introduced to facilitate the prompt reporting of inappropriate behavior.
Christ Mitots School has vowed to take firm steps to prevent any future occurrences of such behavior and uphold the highest standards of child care and education.
