LASEMA Contain Blaze at Ago Medical Centre, No Casualties Reported
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has successfully contained a fire that broke out in sections of a storey building housing the Ago Medical Centre, located off Ago Palace Way in Okota.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed the development in a statement released in the early hours of Saturday. According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency swiftly activated the state’s emergency response plan upon receiving distress calls through the 767/112 toll-free emergency lines at 6:29 p.m. on Friday.
The LASEMA Eagle Response Team arrived at the scene at 6:50 p.m. and discovered that parts of the building, which houses the hospital, were engulfed in flames. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge that occurred when public electricity was restored, sparking the flames.
Fortunately, Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that no lives were lost, and there were no reported injuries during the incident. Emergency responders worked quickly to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.
“The fire is still being fought, and response and recovery operations are ongoing,” Oke-Osanyintolu added, thanking the teams for their quick response. The emergency response team included members from LASEMA, the LASEMA Fire Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Police Force, who worked together to manage the situation.
