Members of the House of Representatives on Thursday, December 19, contributed a total of N704.9 million from their salaries to support vulnerable Nigerians across the nation.

This initiative was announced by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, during a plenary session.

“If you recall, about five months ago, we decided to contribute half of our salaries to address the critical needs of the Nigerian people. I am happy to inform you that so far, we have contributed N704, 907,578.82”, he said.

According to the Speaker, the funds were accumulated by the lawmakers over the past five months and will be distributed to vulnerable Nigerians.

He emphasized that the lawmakers’ decision to donate half of their salaries was in response to the severe hardships and poverty challenges faced by the populace.

Abbas also mentioned that the funds raised will be handed over to President Bola Tinubu to help alleviate poverty among Nigerians.

“On the 31st of December, I will lead a delegation of leadership to hand over the money to the President for the exclusive use of the vulnerable Nigerians who really need it.

“The contributions you made highlight the steadfastness and dedication of members to addressing the critical needs of Nigerians,” Abbas added.
