Life Behind Bars: Ekiti Man Caged for Child Rape While Accomplice Walks Free
An Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti has sentenced 33-year-old Ajewole Olamilekan to life imprisonment for the rape of a 10-year-old girl, while his co-defendant, 25-year-old Omoyajowo Ayo, was acquitted and discharged of all charges.
The defendants were arraigned before Justice Adekunle Adeleye on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit rape, allegedly committed on June 29, 2024, at Ayetoro Ekiti.
The prosecution, led by O.B. Ayeleso, presented five witnesses and several exhibits including defendant statements, digital evidence (CD ROM, Flash Drive), and medical reports to prove the case.
Ajewole Olamilekan, through his lawyer, denied any involvement of the second defendant, Omoyajowo Ayo, in the crime.
In his ruling, Justice Adeleye found no evidence linking Omoyajowo Ayo to the offense and acquitted her.
However, the court found Ajewole Olamilekan guilty beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced him to life imprisonment in accordance with Section 31(2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap.C7, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
