LP group rejects Ogun LG election results, calls for reforms

The Labour Party Digital (LPd), a group within the Labour Party, has rejected the results of the recently concluded Local Government elections in Ogun State, citing allegations of irregularities and procedural flaws.

Speaking through its Mainstream Director of Media and Publicity, Comrade Olumide Adebayo, LPd claimed the elections were marred by the alleged failure of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to provide essential materials such as ballot boxes and result sheets.

“Let me say this clearly: the elections hardly took place. Voters were left waiting for materials that never arrived,” Adebayo said. “OGSIEC declared all 20 chairmanship seats and 236 councillorship positions for the APC, despite the lack of credible voting processes.”

Adebayo further alleged that the electoral process was rendered “nonexistent, comatose, and completely bastardised,” accusing OGSIEC’s leadership of failing to uphold the integrity of the elections.

The group raised additional concerns over fees imposed on candidates, despite OGSIEC being a state-funded body. Chairmanship candidates were reportedly required to pay ₦200,000, while councillorship candidates were charged ₦100,000.

“How do we describe this?” Adebayo asked.

LPd also criticised the ruling APC’s internal candidate selection process, claiming nominees were chosen without proper primaries. “It reeks of dictatorial tendencies,” he added.

The organisation has demanded the nullification of the results and called for a fresh election conducted under fair conditions. It plans to challenge the legitimacy of the elections in court and to seek criminal charges against electoral officials allegedly involved in malpractice.

“Those who aid and abet the stealing of the people’s mandate are no different from armed robbers,” Adebayo remarked.

LPd stated that it possesses time-dated video evidence with location tagging to substantiate its claims of malpractice.

“These videos are disgraceful, and everyone involved in organising this election—from the top down to the electoral officers—should cover their faces in shame. The new Ogun we are trying to build does not have space for such fraudulent and incompetent characters,” Adebayo said.
