Man arraigned for attacking lawyer in court premises
A 60-year-old man, Ogungbe Emmanuel, who allegedly assaulted his wife’s lawyer in a family matter was on Wednesday docked in before an Ebute- Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ogungbe whose residential address was not given, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of assault and breach of public peace.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that Ogungbe committed the offence on May 15 in the premises of the Chief Magistrate Court Ebute Metta West.
Tedunjaye alleged that Ogungbe attacked Alowonle Yetunde, who represented his wife in a family matter that involved Ogungbe.
He submitted that in the course of rendering her professional services, Ogungbe pounced on the counsel and inflicted serious injury on her.
The offence, Tedunjaye said, violates sections 168 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, O.O. Ikobayo, granted Ogungbe bail in the sum of N500,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She ordered Ogungbe to submit his international passport and held that one of the sureties must have a landed property.
The matter was adjourned until June 7 for substantive trial.
