The Defence Headquarters has reported significant success in its counterterrorism operations across Nigeria, with troops neutralizing 97 terrorists, including notorious commander Abu Mosaje, in the past week. The operations were carried out in several states, targeting not only the terrorists but also their collaborators, informants, and support networks.
In a statement issued on Friday, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed that Abu Mosaje, a notorious terrorist commander and gunrunner, was neutralized in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. Additionally, a high-profile kidnap kingpin, Babangida Usman, was apprehended by the same troops in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Usman had been on the security watch list.
Buba further stated that troops arrested Timothy Yusuf and his son, Timothy Obadiah, who are both notorious gunrunners. Meanwhile, in the South-East region, seven members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN), including a notorious kidnapper and informants, were arrested in Enugu and Imo States.
The military also reported the arrest of 28 individuals involved in oil theft and the rescue of 67 kidnapped hostages during the week. In the South-South, troops seized stolen crude oil valued at an estimated N747 million and destroyed over 200 illegal refining sites, including ovens, pits, boats, and storage tanks.
A significant recovery of weapons was also made, with troops seizing 104 assorted firearms, including 53 AK-47 rifles, 25 fabricated rifles, and several other weapons and ammunition. Other items recovered included motorcycles, vehicles, and explosives.
Overall, the Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of citizens across the country.
