Minister champions AI, digital skills for youth at Nigeria-France talks
Nigeria has advanced its digital economy agenda, focusing on Artificial Intelligence and digital skills for its youth, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, said on Friday.
Tijani is part of President Bola Tinubu’s delegation on a state visit to France.
The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations, with discussions centred on technology, innovation, and preparing Nigeria’s youth to excel in the global digital economy.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tijani described the discussions as “productive and promising,” noting the potential for these talks to drive Nigeria’s digital transformation.
He stressed that AI and digital skills are crucial for sustainable development and global competitiveness.
“I participated in bilateral discussions centred on accelerating the growth of our digital economy through technology and innovation, deploying the use of Artificial Intelligence for development, and equipping our young population with digital skills necessary to compete globally,” Tijani said.
The minister added, “I look forward to building on these engagements for the benefit of all Nigerians.”
President Tinubu’s visit to France — his fifth since assuming office 18 months ago — was at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, who sought to “fortify Nigeria-France relations,” according to the Presidency.
The President, accompanied by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, arrived in Paris on Wednesday evening, touching down at Orly Airport at 5:10 p.m., where he was welcomed with full military honours by the French Republican Guard.
Official engagements began on Thursday at the historic Les Invalides, where President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron formally received the Nigerian delegation.
