Ministry of Women Affairs Kicks Off Year-End Intervention with Food Distribution to Vulnerable Women in FCT and Lagos

The Ministry of Women Affairs has launched its end-of-year intervention program, distributing food items to various women’s groups in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Lagos State. This initiative, aimed at providing relief to vulnerable women and families affected by Nigeria’s current economic challenges, is part of the Renewed Hope Year-End Intervention program.

The flag-off ceremony was led by Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs, who emphasized that the program aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to support the nation’s most vulnerable groups. She stated, “Today’s event marks the beginning of a new era where no one is left behind. The Renewed Hope Year-End Intervention for Vulnerable Women and Families reflects the president’s commitment to improving the lives of those most affected by the country’s economic challenges.”

Sulaiman-Ibrahim added that the intervention would be expanded nationwide, underscoring President Tinubu’s dedication to advancing the welfare of women and children. She highlighted that empowering women is central to the nation’s goal of building a $1 trillion economy, with women playing a crucial role in sectors such as agriculture, creative industries, and digital technologies.

“The Tinubu-led administration is committed to expanding efforts to empower and protect women, children, and vulnerable groups,” she stated. “Women are the backbone of our society, and empowering them is essential to building resilient and thriving communities.”

The initiative has received support from key stakeholders, including Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir, Director-General of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, and Mrs. Oghogho Musa, National President of the Defence Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA). Both praised the Ministry for addressing the immediate needs of vulnerable groups, calling the intervention timely and impactful.

In Lagos, the message from the Minister was delivered by her technical assistant, Mrs. Ola Erinfolami, and the women’s groups expressed their gratitude with dancing and thanks. They recognized that the food packages would greatly ease their families’ burdens, especially during the festive season.

The food distribution program was launched on December 23rd in the FCT and December 24th in Lagos, with plans to extend to Nasarawa and other states across the country. Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, through her special assistant on media, Jonathan Eze, confirmed that the food aid will reach all corners of the country as part of the government’s efforts to uplift vulnerable communities.
