Mmesoma – The Jury is Out – Verdict by Nze Ugochukwu Nwachukwu

1. It is clear from Mmesoma’s actions (texting Jamb with the purported scores repeatedly seeking a different result) that the fake results did not emanate from her. Rather, a parent, uncle, brother, cousin, friend, the CBT center (why did they come out late to speak), an educator, or a jamb official fabricated that result and gave it to the girl.

2. It is evident that when she saw in the news and other outlet of a 360 being the highest score, she began to suspect hers may not be authentic afterall. This prompted her to send several messages to JAMB.

3. People’s reaction towards the case is in response to Jamb’s overreaction. JAMB overreacted causing people to suspect that JAMB is trying to hide something. The cancellation of her original result and the quick three years ban is an overreaction to a very simple case of a government official calling the body to crosscheck a result.

4. Lets put this into context. If one claims to have graduated with 1st class from UNN, while actually graduating with 2nd Class Upper; would UNN cancel her BSc degree if an organization reaches out to UNN to confirm her results?

5. The whole chaos is as a result of JAMB’s actions; in light of the body’s past controversies.

6. This whole scenario underscores the urgency that the Presidential Election Tribunal must attach to its task in removing Tinubu from office. It is INEC’s manipulation and Tinubu’s antecedent that drove those behind the result to think its a good idea in the first place. To correct such acts, we must start from the top to correct it.

7. The young girl should hire a lawyer or lawyers and Anambra/Enugu government should get involved to dissuade JAMB from this disproportionate sledge hammer approach. The punishment does not fit the malfeasance.
