MNJTF Operation Lake Sanity 2 Eliminates 310 Terrorists, Dismantles Key Bases

Troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have successfully eliminated 310 terrorists and dismantled critical logistics bases in the Lake Chad region during their Operation Lake Sanity 2 offensive. The operation, which ran from April 23 to July 22, 2024, was part of an ongoing effort to combat insurgency in the region.

Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Salau, the Force Commander, shared the achievement during the MNJTF Operation Lake Sanity 2 Medal Parade at the MNJTF Headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad. He confirmed that the operation not only neutralized terrorists but also facilitated the repatriation of over 30,000 refugees and internally displaced persons, helping restore stability to their communities.

In addition to the 310 terrorists killed, the operation led to the arrest of 160 logistics suppliers and informants, and over 800 terrorists and their families voluntarily surrendered, signaling a decrease in support for terrorist activities.

Salau credited the operation’s success to the collaboration among the ground troops and air forces of Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria, supported by limited air assistance from Niger. He emphasized the importance of coordination among the Lake Chad Basin countries and the contributions of development partners to regional security.

A key part of the medal ceremony in Chad involved honoring fallen and injured soldiers who made significant sacrifices during the operation. Previous ceremonies had taken place in Cameroon and Nigeria, with further tributes planned for Chad.

Chadian Minister of Defense, Mr. Issaka Malloua Djamous, reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and security in the region, praising the success of Operation Lake Sanity 2 in dismantling terrorist strongholds and neutralizing threats. He urged troops to remain vigilant and adapt to evolving terrorist tactics while calling for closer regional cooperation and enhanced support from international partners.
