Mother Withdraws N10bn Suit Against School Over Daughter’s Controversial Death
Mrs Vivien Akpagher has withdrawn a N10 billion lawsuit against Premiere Academy school over the contentious death of her 14-year-old daughter, Keren-Happuch Aondodoo.
In an emotional press briefing on Thursday, Akpagher accused the school of negligence leading to Keren’s death from medical issues after being raped and sodomized at the boarding facility in June 2021. She alleged that a condom was left in the minor’s private part.
The grieving mother narrated frustrating experiences trying to get justice, claiming the police compromised investigations after collecting N800,000 mobilization fees from her. She said they allowed the school to dictate the probe pace.
Akpagher further disclosed that CCTV footage which could unravel details was not secured by police as the school dubiously claimed it automatically deletes after a month. She also lamented the lack of DNA test results two years later due to alleged cover-ups.
The deceased’s mum accused former Women Affairs Minister Pauline Tallen, the National Human Rights Commission and other agencies of ignoring her cries for justice through conspiracy of silence and inaction.
Meanwhile, Lemmy Ughegbe of Men Against Rape Foundation warned against any propaganda while the family heals. He vowed to firmly resist any intimidation to allow Mrs Akpagher mourn her daughter who died under controversial circumstances.
