“Mudashiru Obasa Claims Impeachment Was a Sham, Staged with Fake Mace”
Mudashiru Obasa, the immediate past Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has strongly contested his impeachment, labeling it a fraudulent process orchestrated with a fake mace.
A few weeks ago, while Obasa was abroad in the United States, lawmakers voted to remove him from his position, with Mojisola Meranda stepping in as his successor. However, upon returning to Nigeria over the weekend, Obasa wasted no time in declaring his impeachment “null and void.”
Speaking to his supporters from the local government areas of Agege, Alimosho, and Kosofe, in Ikeja GRA, Obasa argued that the impeachment was unconstitutional and violated proper procedures.
He raised concerns over the involvement of the police in the proceedings: “Why were the police involved that morning, led by the Commissioner of Police? What was their role in the House of Assembly?” Obasa questioned. He further pointed out that previous removals of lawmakers had taken place without any external interference or the use of a fake mace.
“When my dear brother Pelumi was removed, it was done right on the floor of the House, with no police action. Likewise, when Tejuoso was removed as deputy speaker, there was no outside interference, just a peaceful process within the Assembly,” he added.
Obasa’s claims have raised eyebrows about the integrity of his removal and whether it followed proper legal procedures.
