NAF Strikes Alawa Forest, Kills Bandits and Dismantles Terrorists’ Logistics Hub
The air component of Operation Fansan Yamma has successfully neutralized scores of bandits and dismantled their logistics base in a series of airstrikes at Alawa Forest in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State. This was revealed in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The operation, carried out on Tuesday, followed credible intelligence and aerial surveillance confirming the influx of armed terrorists into the forest. These bandits were linked to a series of violent attacks, including two separate improvised explosive device (IED) blasts on December 19, 2024, in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, which resulted in several civilian casualties.
In response to this threat, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched a three-day sustained air operation, code-named “Konan Daji,” aimed at weakening the terrorists’ operational capabilities and making the forest uninhabitable for them.
A formation of fighter jets was dispatched to the area, where they conducted air interdiction missions. Upon arrival, the jets executed precision strikes on identified targets, resulting in the neutralization of numerous armed fighters. The airstrikes also destroyed the terrorists’ logistics base, as evidenced by multiple secondary explosions.
The statement emphasized that efforts are ongoing to eliminate all criminal elements from Alawa Forest and neighboring areas, with the goal of ensuring lasting peace and security for local communities in Niger and the surrounding regions.
The operation has been hailed as a significant achievement for the NAF, marking a decisive blow to the bandits and advancing the fight against terrorism and insecurity in the region.
