NAFDAC Warns Katsina Water Producers Against Substandard Products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned water producers in Katsina State against producing and the selling substandard products to their consumers in the state.

The Katsina NAFDAC Coordinator, Mr. Musa Momodu Ikhazobor, gave the warning during a one-day sensitisation workshop for members of the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) organised by the agency Thursday, in Katsina.

He said members of the association should strive to adhere strictly to the regulatory standards guiding the production and selling of water, and prioritise the safety and well-being of those consuming their products.

Ikhazobor explained that water as a veritable source of “spreading waterborne diseases” such as cholera and typhoid could be averted if the water producers produce and sell quality and safe products to their customers.

He stated that it was not only a legal requirement, but a moral obligation for table water producers in the state to prioritise the safety and well-being of those who consume what they produce or face the wrath of the law.

“I want to emphasise the importance of adhering to regulatory standards. NAFDAC is against production and selling of substandard products. Your success is intertwined with the trust your consumers place in your products.  We have streamlined our registration procedures and provided channels for consultation.

“I encourage collaboration among members of this great association, share best practices, learn from one another and collectively raise the standard and quality of table in our market,” Ikhazobor said.

He charged members of the association to create an enabling environment where consumers can confidently consume their products “knowing that their safety is a top priority for every water factory owner in Katsina State”.

The NAFDAC coordinator said the one-day sensitisation workshop marks a new beginning and significant step forward in the agency’s shared commitment to ensure the safety and quality of packaged water produced and consumed throughout the state.
