NANS Urges Southern Students to Utilize Nigerian Education Loan Fund for Financial Relief
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on students from higher institutions in southern Nigeria to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ease their financial burden while pursuing their education.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Clerk of the Senate at NANS National Headquarters, Abdul-Yekinn Odunayo, expressed concern over the low participation in the loan scheme among southern students. He emphasized that the loan scheme, introduced by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, was designed to assist Nigerian students in achieving sustainable higher education and skill development.
Southern Students Urged to Act on Loan Opportunities
Odunayo noted that students from the northern part of the country have been taking full advantage of the loan program, and he urged their southern counterparts not to miss out. “If students from the south fail to access the loan, they will only be doing a disservice to themselves,” he stated.
He commended NELFUND for simplifying the loan application process and lauded the federal government for establishing the initiative. According to Odunayo, the student loan scheme has already helped many financially disadvantaged students realize their academic dreams.
Call for More Awareness and Publicity
While praising the success of the program, Odunayo called for increased publicity to raise awareness, especially among students in the southern regions of Nigeria. He urged NELFUND to intensify efforts to ensure that students in these areas are fully informed and able to benefit from the scheme.
As the deadline for loan applications approaches, NANS continues to encourage students to seize the opportunity to secure financial support for their educational pursuits.
