Nasarawa Governor Inaugurates Committee to Tackle Ghost Workers in LGAs

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has inaugurated a five-member committee to tackle the issue of ghost workers across local government areas (LGAs) in the state.

This decision was made during a recent meeting of the State Economic Council, chaired by Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe, and was announced by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Comrade Peter Ahemba, in Lafia.

The committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive screening to identify the actual workforce within the LGAs. This exercise is designed to eliminate financial leakages and ensure that the councils can implement the N70,000 minimum wage for their employees.

Ahemba explained that the move was prompted by concerns over an inflated workforce, particularly in development areas, but emphasized that the initiative was not aimed at undermining the authority or autonomy of the local government leaders.

Additionally, Governor Sule has urged the LGA chairmen to support federal and state food security initiatives by acquiring large tracts of land for agricultural projects. As part of this effort, Vice President Kashim Shettima recently donated two tractors to each of the 13 LGA chairmen during his visit to Nasarawa State.

In another significant development, Governor Sule has also directed the centralization of revenue generation between the state and LGAs. This new measure is expected to improve accountability and reduce leakages in the revenue collection process.

Ahemba noted that these initiatives are part of the administration’s broader efforts to promote financial discipline, enhance food security, and support sustainable development across Nasarawa State.
