National grid restoration begins after collapse in Nigeria

Restoration of the country’s national grid has began after its collapse around 11:30 am on Wednesday, 10th September 2025.

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Port Harcourt Disco, in a separate notice, confirmed Wednesday’s grid collapse, which led to an outage across its franchise.

In an update, the Nigeria National Grid wrote on X, Wednesday that the grid restoration has begun.

Accordingly, it stated that the grid has restored 495 total megawatts to Abuja (150 MW), Benin (40 MW), Eko (80 MW), Enugu (40 MW), Ibadan (50 MW), Ikeja (80 MW), Kano (35 MW) and Kaduna (25 MW) discos, while others such as Port Harcourt, Jos and Yola remained at zero MW as of filing the report.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Ndidi Mbah, on the details of this latest grid collapse have not yielded results, as calls were not picked up nor returned as of filing the report.
