NBA CRISIS: Osigwe is contacting Lawyers, SANs and Branches Campaigning for Badejo-Okusanya, We have witnesses willing to Testify – Akangbe, Akinboro begs NBA Board to Remove NBA President
Two presidential aspirants in the Nigerian Bar Association have accused the Association’s President, Afam Osigwe, of personally lobbying lawyers to support Oyinkasola Badejo-Okusanya in the forthcoming NBA elections.
In their petition to the Board of Trustees, Aare Muyiwa Akinboro, SAN, and Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, alleged that the President contacted lawyers, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria, urging them to vote for the said aspirant. They also referenced branch-level events, including the NBA Yola Branch Law Week, where the President allegedly canvassed support.
The aspirants contend that such conduct amounts to active campaigning by a sitting President during an ongoing electoral process, thereby undermining the perception of fairness and neutrality.
In response to these alleged actions, they formally called for the President’s resignation, the immediate reconstitution of the ECNBA, and the establishment of an independent election oversight body free from presidential influence to ensure that the forthcoming elections reflect the true will of NBA members.
