In a decisive move that could reshape the politics of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in 2026, the influential Yoruba lawyers’ umbrella body, Egbe Amofin Oodua, has overwhelmingly adopted Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, FCIArb (Life Bencher) as its consensus aspirant for the NBA’s 2026 presidential election.
The adoption was announced at the Egbe’s 2025 Annual General Meeting held at Mitros Residences, Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, under the leadership of its Chairman, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, SAN.
The gathering brought together senior legal minds from across the South-West in a charged atmosphere of unity, strategy, and political calculation.
The meeting opened with deliberations on the wellbeing of members and the preservation of the Egbe’s influence in NBA national Bar politics.
The association reaffirmed a 2019 decision to give preference to candidates from the Oyo/Osun axis for the 2026 NBA presidential ticket.
According to a communuque issued by the group, a Special Committee, chaired by Ms. Toyin Bashorun, SAN, and comprising other eminent members including Kunle Adegoke, SAN, Seun Abimbola, SAN, Gbemiga Daramola, Esq, Chief (Prof.) Fassy Yusuf, and Dr. Banke Olagbegi-Oloba (Secretary), was mandated to engage all interested aspirants from the Egbe.
The committee adopted six performance indicators—experience, cross-NBA appeal, maturity, vision articulation, commitment to Egbe ideals, and team spirit. After robust engagements, both individually and collectively, Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, emerged the top scorer in every category.
In the spirit of unity, the group called on Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, Prof. Foluke Dada-Lawanson, and Mrs. Oyinkan Badejo-Okusanya to step aside for Akniboro to emerge a the sole candidate.
