NBA Nyanya-Karu Elders and Members Disclaim Outgoing Chairman, Augustine Ibolo’s Emergency Law Week Plans, Warn the General Public
Concerned elders and financial members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nyanya-Karu Branch, has issued a strongly worded public disclaimer against an alleged unauthorized plan by the outgoing Branch Chairman, Mr. Augustine Ibolo, to organize a Law Week event without the approval of the Branch two weeks to the end of this tenure.
In the disclaimer dated May 24, 2025, the concerned members disassociated themselves from a publication by Mr. Henry Tawo Ebu, who claimed to be the Chairman of the NBA Nyanya-Karu Branch Law Week Committee and announced a supposed Law Week slated for June 13 to 19, 2025. The signatories to the disclaimer made it clear that no such committee was ever constituted or ratified by the Branch and that the announcement was both false and misleading.
The members categorically stated that there is no agreed plan by the NBA Nyanya-Karu Branch to hold any Law Week in 2025, and that no such proposal has been discussed or approved at any Branch meeting. They also noted that the appointment of Mr. Henry Tawo Ebu as a Committee Chairman was unknown to the Branch and lacks legitimacy.
Significantly, the members highlighted that the dates of the purported Law Week directly clash with the officially scheduled NBA Nyanya-Karu Branch Election Week, which has been fixed for June 14 to 19, 2025, by the Branch Electoral Committee.
According to the disclaimer, this timing is not coincidental but rather a deliberate move by the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Ibolo, to interfere with the electoral process and unlawfully extend his influence. The signatories reaffirmed their full support for the Electoral Committee and its mandate to deliver a free, fair, and credible election, warning that any activities aimed at undermining this process would not be tolerated.
Further compounding concerns, the disclaimer pointed out that the financial report of the 2024 Law Week, organized under Mr. Ibolo’s administration, has still not been rendered to the Branch, despite repeated calls for accountability. This unresolved financial issue has raised additional suspicions about the motives behind the rushed and unauthorized announcement of another Law Week.
The concerned members have therefore issued a stern warning to the general public, legal professionals, potential sponsors, and stakeholders to steer clear of any dealings with Mr. Augustine Ibolo or Mr. Henry Tawo Ebu in relation to the alleged Law Week. They emphasized that any person or organization entering into agreements or transactions with either individual does so entirely at their own risk.
