The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) is set to convene its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Akure, Ondo State, from February 5 to 7, with a focus on addressing major national challenges. The meeting, hosted by the Ondo State government and declared open by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will tackle pressing issues such as escalating insecurity, including banditry, kidnapping, and farmer-herder conflicts, as well as the broader downturn in Nigeria’s economy and political landscape.
Delegates will also engage in discussions on critical issues facing the legal community, fostering an environment for strategic planning and development. The meeting aims to bring together top legal minds and practitioners from across the country to share best practices and formulate solutions for a more vibrant and equitable justice system.
Ondo State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, confirmed the state’s role in hosting the event, calling it a significant milestone for the state after a decade-long hiatus. He noted that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership has helped elevate Ondo State’s national profile, making it an emerging hub for legal excellence.
“This meeting is not just an internal NBA gathering; it underscores Ondo State’s progressive vision and rich legal heritage,” Ajulo said, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and collaboration. He added that the outcomes from the meeting will play a crucial role in improving legal practices and reforms that will benefit society.
During the meeting, the Chief Judge will host a cocktail party in honor of the delegates on February 5, while Governor Aiyedatiwa will host a state banquet on Thursday. The Attorney General expressed gratitude to the NBA leadership, including President Chief Afam Osigwe, SAN, and General Secretary Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, for choosing Ondo State as the venue for such an important event.
