NBA Transition Committee Members Serve Pro Bono — President Elect Osigwe Says; TC To Meet Virtually
The President Elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN, has responded to concerns raised by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana SAN, regarding the cost implications of the NBA’s transition implementation committee.
In a statement released today by Bridget Ijeoma Edokwe Esq. NBA National Publicity Secretary (Elect), Osigwe reassured members of the Bar that the transition committee is a pro bono service, with appointed members serving at no cost to the NBA. He emphasized that the committee will conduct all meetings virtually, eliminating the need for physical gatherings and associated expenses.
The President Elect commended the selfless service of the committee members and highlighted his own experience as the chairman of the 2022 NBA Transition Implementation Committee, which he served at no cost to the organization.
Osigwe also addressed Falana’s analogy comparing the NBA transition to the recent leadership change in the UK, noting that the comparison is inapposite due to the differences between the NBA and the UK’s parliamentary system.
The statement concluded with a commitment from the incoming Bar leadership to prioritize cost-cutting measures and to take members’ concerns seriously.
TheNigeriaLawyer recall that 17-member committee is in addition to the Transition Committee already set up by the NBA President, making a total of 34 members.
