NCAA Petitions AGF, IGP to Prosecute Fuji Star K1 Over Airport Chaos

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, seeking the prosecution of popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as K1 De Ultimate, following a chaotic incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

According to NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu, the singer’s actions — including allegedly blocking a moving ValueJet aircraft — constitute a serious violation of Nigeria’s civil aviation regulations.

The agency’s petition urges both the AGF and the IGP to launch a criminal investigation and initiate legal proceedings in line with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs 2023) and other relevant laws.

No-Fly Ban Imposed on Kwam 1

In a separate disciplinary measure, the NCAA imposed a six-month no-fly ban on the Fuji star, warning that any local or international airline that transports him risks having their license revoked.

Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, condemned Kwam 1’s behaviour as “unacceptable and reprehensible,” noting that the artist’s act of blocking a taxiing aircraft amounted to a “hostage situation.”Contrary to what Kwam 1’s representatives claim, he repeatedly changed position on the tarmac to block the aircraft,” Keyamo said in a post on X. “Whether he was holding water or alcohol is irrelevant — this is about physically obstructing a plane ready for take-off.”

What Sparked the Incident?

Sources from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the incident began when airport security prevented Kwam 1 from boarding his Lagos-bound flight after he refused to surrender a flask containing alcoholic content, which he allegedly spilled on an aviation staffer during an outburst.

Viral videos and official footage from the scene show Kwam 1 obstructing a ValueJet aircraft, prompting safety concerns and operational disruption.

Pilots Also Disciplined

In the aftermath, the NCAA also suspended two ValueJet pilots for breaching safety protocols by continuing to taxi the aircraft despite the obstruction. While acknowledging the pilots’ misconduct, Keyamo emphasized that Kwam 1 must also be held accountable.

“Disciplining the pilots was correct, but it must not be one-sided. The unruly passenger must also face the full consequences,” Keyamo said.

He further directed the NCAA to inform all airlines, both domestic and international, of the no-fly order and cautioned that any carrier violating it will face regulatory penalties.

Political Ties and Public Scrutiny

Kwam 1 is a well-known cultural figure, especially in Southwest Nigeria, where Fuji music has deep roots in the Yoruba ethnic group. A close ally of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), he has performed at numerous party events, including the 2023 presidential inaugural ball.

His political connections and celebrity status have drawn mixed reactions from the public, with many watching closely to see whether the aviation authorities will follow through on their calls for equal enforcement of the law, regardless of status.
