NCC CEO, Aminu Maida, Pledges Transparency and Coverage Maps in 2025

The Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman (CEO/EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, has assured stakeholders that the Commission will continue to build on its 2024 achievements as it steps into the new year.

In a series of tweets shared from the official X handle of the Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, on Thursday, Maida outlined plans for enhancing the transparency and competitiveness within Nigeria’s telecom industry in 2025.

One of the key initiatives will be the release of coverage maps derived from crowd-sourced data, which will showcase the actual performance of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) across the country. Maida emphasized that these maps will not rely on simulated data but on actual performance metrics, allowing mobile network users to easily identify the most efficient network in their specific area.

He stated, “We are going to see a lot more transparency to help drive competition and service delivery amongst operators. Now that we have laid some of the necessary foundations, we are optimistic that we can further enhance the telecom sector in 2025.”

Maida highlighted that users would no longer need to rely on word of mouth when selecting a network. Instead, they will be able to visit the NCC’s official website and view real-time data on network performance in their locality.

One of the major milestones achieved by the NCC in 2024 was the successful implementation of the Federal Government policy on the NIN-SIM linkage, which aims to enhance security and telecom regulation. Additionally, the Commission’s infrastructure was designated as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) through a Presidential Order issued on November 6, 2024.

Looking ahead, Maida expressed optimism about the progress that will be made in 2025, noting that the NCC is committed to further improving the telecom ecosystem, fostering healthy competition, and ensuring better service delivery for Nigerians.
