NDLEA Alerts Parents Over Sweets Contaminated with Intoxicating Substances in Kano
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State has issued a strong warning to parents about the circulation of sweets and cookies that may contain intoxicating substances.
In a video posted by the agency’s spokesperson, ASN Sadiq Maigatari, the public was informed that certain candies, which resemble regular chocolate, are being laced with harmful substances, including cannabis, and are being sold to unsuspecting school children.
Maigatari urged parents to be vigilant and check the ingredients of sweets and cookies their children consume, as some packages may carry symbols related to cannabis. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that children are not exposed to such dangerous products.
“We advise parents to check the packaging carefully because some items may have symbols or designs linked to cannabis. It is important that they remain cautious to avoid their children ingesting these products,” he stated.
Additionally, Maigatari encouraged parents to monitor their children’s behavior for any unusual signs that may suggest substance exposure, such as sudden changes in eating habits and sleeping patterns. These could serve as early indicators of potential intoxication.
The warning from the NDLEA comes as part of ongoing efforts to protect school children from harmful substances being covertly distributed within local communities.
