NGO Alleges Police Officer Took Detained Teenager to His Home in Katsina

A human rights organization, International Human Rights Today Initiative (HRTI), led by Comrade Maiyasin, has lodged a formal complaint with the Katsina State Police Headquarters, accusing CSP Bello Gusau, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Dutsinma, of taking a 15-year-old girl detained at the station to his personal residence, where she reportedly spent the night.

Before filing the complaint, HRTI conducted a thorough investigation and gathered substantial evidence confirming the girl’s presence at the DPO’s home. The organization’s leader spoke to DAILY POST, revealing that the matter was taken seriously by the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa, who promptly established an investigative committee and suspended the DPO pending the investigation’s outcome.

According to Maiyasin, the girl had initially gone missing before being found and brought to the Dutsinma Police Station. Due to the late hour, she was left there to spend the night. However, the DPO allegedly instructed the girl’s relatives to leave, promising to personally return her home the next morning. When the relatives returned to the station with food, they were told she was no longer there, leading to a confrontation with police officers who initially claimed she had not spent the night at the station.

The girl was eventually brought back, but when she arrived, she was wearing different clothes than those she had the night before. According to HRTI, the girl later confirmed to them that she had been taken to the DPO’s house, as instructed by him. The organization recorded her testimony, which was submitted as part of their complaint.

In a related development, DAILY POST obtained an audio recording where the girl’s father expressed his determination to seek justice for his daughter, vowing to pursue the matter through appropriate legal channels.

The Katsina State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that an investigation is currently underway to determine the truth of the allegations and ensure justice is served.
