Nigeria Currently Undergoing Surgery, Says Lagos Deputy Governor

Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat has likened the agonising pains and hardships caused by the country’s current reforms to surgical procedures necessary to correct complications and boost economic productivity.

The deputy governor stated this at a special prayer session organised by the state government to mark his 60th birthday at Community Central Mosque, Alausa. He urged Nigerians to be patient with the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, which has taken bold steps to embark on holistic economic reforms to revamp the economy.

Hamzat urged Nigerians to expect the gains from the current pains and ensure the country does not disintegrate.

He lauded Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his dedication to the state, brotherliness, thoroughness, and passion for the job. About two days ago, Mr. Governor told me that the Femi, the fourth mainland Bridge project, must be done. The passion he brings to the jobs and the state is uncommon.

Hamzat explained that passion and hard work have seen the Lagos state, a subnational government, execute big projects like rail line projects only done by national governments.

In his goodwill message, Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a prayer session attended by political bigwigs, traditional rulers, frontline clergymen, and members of the state’s executive council, paid glowing tributes to his deputy and described Hamzat as a very hardworking, dependable, and loyal deputy.

He said that contrary to some quarters’ belief that they will not be able to work together, they have worked perfectly together to transform the state without rancour.

He said Hamzat’s administrative acumen, erudition, and hard work had been noticed by everyone, including his colleague governors. He said the bond between him and his deputy had transcended their current offices.
