The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported an overwhelming response to its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, receiving a total of 573,519 applications just a week after the portal opened. This surge comes in light of the recent approval by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Olawale Edun, to recruit 3,927 officers for the NCS.
In an update released on Tuesday, NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada provided a breakdown of the applications across various categories. According to Maiwada, applicants were divided into two main categories: support staff (professionals) and general duty officers.
For the general duty positions under the superintendent cadre, 249,218 applicants applied. The support staff category for this cadre, which requires candidates with HNDs or university degrees, saw 27,722 applicants.
In the inspector cadre, which requires candidates with National Certificate in Education (NCE) or National Diploma, 115,634 individuals applied for the general duty, while 12,952 applied for support staff positions.
Additionally, the customs assistant category, which is open to candidates with secondary school certificates, had a total of 153,593 applicants for the general duty and 14,400 for the support staff. Among them, applicants were further split into those with the required five-credit results, including Maths and English, and those without these qualifications.
This massive influx of applications highlights the strong demand for positions within the NCS, as the service seeks to fill 3,927 vacant roles across various cadres.
