Nigerian Bar Association Announces Deadline for Bar Practicing Fee Payments

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has officially opened the window for lawyers enrolled at the Supreme Court of Nigeria to pay their annual Bar Practicing Fee (BPF). The payment window began on January 1, 2025, and will close on March 31, 2025.

In a statement issued by the NBA General Secretary, Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, the association stressed the importance of timely payment of the BPF and outlined the various benefits associated with it. These benefits include insurance coverage from the Leadway Assurance Scheme, healthcare privileges under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), eligibility to apply for Notary Public status and the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank, participation in NBA and Branch elections, and the ability to obtain a letter of good standing.

The BPF fees are determined by the number of years a lawyer has been enrolled at the Supreme Court. Senior Advocates and Honorable Benchers are required to pay ₦50,000, while lawyers with 15 or more years post-call must pay ₦25,000. Lawyers with 10-14 years post-call will pay ₦17,500, those with 5-9 years will pay ₦10,000, and lawyers with 1-4 years post-call must pay ₦5,000.

Payments must be made through the NBA Portal, with options available for both individual and group payments. For individual payments, lawyers should log in to the portal using their enrollment number, email address, and password. They can then click on “Payment,” select “BPF Payment,” and follow the prompts to complete the transaction. Group payments can also be made by adding up to 25 members’ enrollment numbers, with receipts sent to all individuals and the initiator’s email.

For any inquiries or assistance, the NBA has provided contact details for Blessing (National Treasurer), Ezekiel, and Bayo, who are available from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Dr. Ojibara concluded the statement by urging lawyers to make their BPF payments promptly in order to continue enjoying the numerous benefits and privileges of the legal profession. He also wished them a productive and fulfilling year ahead.
