No More Open Borders: Ogun Govt to Fence and Gate Ibara GRA
In a move aimed at boosting safety and modernizing estate living, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved the construction of a ring-fenced perimeter and gated access system for the Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Abeokuta.
The announcement, made on Monday by the Commissioner for Housing, Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, revealed that the decision was driven by growing security concerns and persistent appeals from residents—particularly subscribers to the ongoing Ibara GRA Regeneration Scheme.
“The governor’s approval is a direct response to residents’ calls to address the porosity of the estate,” said Omoniyi, describing the area as lacking the kind of controlled access seen in modern private estates across Nigeria.
According to the commissioner, the security enhancement project will not only fortify the estate’s security infrastructure but also elevate its visual appeal and market value.
“This is more than a security measure,” Omoniyi added. “It’s about upgrading Ibara GRA to reflect the quality and aesthetics found in well-managed estates nationwide.”
Omoniyi praised Governor Abiodun for what he called a “magnanimous approval” and reaffirmed the Ministry of Housing’s commitment to executing the state’s broader housing reform agenda.
He further noted that stakeholder engagements will be held soon to ensure that uncovered areas within the GRA—especially those not initially included in the regeneration scheme—can also benefit from the new security structure.
“This administration is focused on reinventing all GRAs in Ogun to meet modern standards,” Omoniyi stated.
