“No Rift, Just Rumours”: Sanwo-Olu Dismisses Talk of Fallout With Tinubu
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has brushed off rumours of a rift between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling the speculation baseless and laughable.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday following a courtesy visit to President Tinubu in Lagos, the governor directly addressed the claims, which had been making rounds in political circles.
“Did you see any discord?” Sanwo-Olu asked with a grin. “Even you, you are smiling. I am smiling. There is none.”
He criticised those pushing the narrative of political tension, suggesting they often dramatize issues for relevance.
“There are people who believe they are more Catholic than the Pope,” he said. “Sometimes, you see people crying more than the bereaved.”
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his loyalty to Tinubu, describing their relationship as one rooted in mentorship and mutual respect.
“He is my father, he is my leader. We are grateful that he gave us audience today,” the governor added. “There is nothing at all—no issues.”
The governor was accompanied by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; his deputy, Mojisola Meranda; and Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President—alongside several influential figures in Lagos politics.
Their presence appeared to reinforce the governor’s claims of unity and shared purpose between Lagos leadership and the presidency.
