No Truth in Amaechi’s Story — Fayemi’s Camp Fires Back
Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has rejected claims by ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that the two jointly initiated talks to form an opposition coalition.
Amaechi, speaking during an X Space session on Saturday, alleged that he and Fayemi began coalition discussions before bringing in other politicians.
“Fayemi and I began the coalition discussion, and we subsequently agreed to broaden it so that it would involve more than just the two of us talking about starting a new party,” Amaechi claimed.
But in a swift response on Sunday, Fayemi, through his media aide Ahmad Sajoh, dismissed the statement as false and misleading.
“In an era where fabricated or distorted statements are often attributed to public figures for malicious purposes, we are cautious about engaging with potentially manufactured controversies designed to provoke or profit,” Sajoh said, adding that it was possible Amaechi had been misquoted.
The statement stressed that Fayemi remains a dedicated member and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State and has consistently affirmed his loyalty to the party.
“At various public forums, he has reiterated his commitment to working from within the APC to tackle its challenges and promote its progressive ideals for Nigeria. Nothing has changed,” Sajoh added.
