Northern Nigeria Needs Healing, Not Division — CAN
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Northern Nigeria has called for a coordinated effort to secure lasting peace and unity across the region.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, CAN Chairman, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, urged Yahaya to spearhead a regional initiative to bridge divides, foster reconciliation, and strengthen harmony among communities.
Hayab said such a drive would create a friendlier environment for residents, attract investment, and accelerate development in Northern Nigeria. He praised the governor’s inclusive leadership and swift crisis interventions, noting that Gombe has become a model for peace-building at a time when the region faces growing mistrust and division.
He proposed a North-wide peace and unity framework bringing together traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth voices, and public officials for sustained dialogue and joint action.
“The future stability of the region depends on raising young people who work together without being defined by religion or ethnicity, but instead bound by shared humanity and a common vision for progress,” Hayab stressed.
