“Not My Business”: Aiyedatiwa Distances Himself from Assembly Leadership Changes

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has denied involvement in the recent leadership changes within the State House of Assembly, which saw the resignation of Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan and the stepping down of Majority Leader Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi.

Speculations have been rife across the state suggesting that the governor influenced the leadership shake-up, allegedly targeting lawmakers linked to his previously aborted impeachment plot. However, the governor dismissed the claims, asserting that the internal dynamics of the Assembly are outside his purview.

Speaking during a ceremony to distribute Toyota Hilux operational vehicles to security agencies, Aiyedatiwa stated:

“Nothing is permanent. Society itself evolves. So, they are doing some readjustment in the House. Basically, their business—so it’s not my business. I am on my lane. As long as the House is peaceful, I have no problem.”

Supporting the governor’s position, Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, said the leadership adjustments were made to reflect the state’s internal political balancing, rather than a response to political retaliation.

While distancing himself from the Assembly’s developments, Aiyedatiwa remained focused on bolstering the state’s security apparatus. At the same event, he emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and security personnel.

“This event underscores our administration’s commitment to enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency, and capacity of our security agencies to respond to any security alert or acts of criminality,” he said.

The governor noted that this is a continuation of a similar initiative in July 2024, when the government distributed 25 Toyota Hilux vehicles to security agencies. This latest batch is part of a sustained effort to provide logistics and operational support to security operatives across Ondo State.

He reiterated that supporting security agencies is both a constitutional duty and a gesture of appreciation for their service and sacrifices.

Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Secretary to the State Government, echoed the sentiment, stating that the administration takes security matters seriously and is committed to maintaining order and protecting lives and property.

In goodwill remarks, top security officials including Brigadier General Justin Ifeanyi (32 Artillery Brigade Commander), Amotekun Commander Chief Adetunji Adeleye, and Police Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi, expressed gratitude to the state government. They assured the public that the vehicles would be effectively deployed and well-maintained to improve security operations across the state.
