“NSCDC Denies Involvement in Kidnapping, Banditry, and Arms Supply”
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has firmly denied any involvement of its personnel in recent cases of kidnapping, banditry, or the supply of arms and ammunition, following misleading reports suggesting otherwise.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, CSC Babawale Afolabi, the NSCDC clarified that the arrests of its personnel, which had been referenced in recent reports, occurred in October 2022. However, the individuals in question were dismissed from the Corps in 2023 and no longer held any affiliation with the NSCDC.
“The arrests were made in 2022 involving former personnel who, at the time, were part of the Corps but were dismissed in 2023. These individuals acted independently and did not represent the NSCDC,” the statement read.
The NSCDC emphasized that it has since implemented various reforms and initiatives designed to strengthen national security, working in close collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard citizens. The Corps condemned any acts of sabotage or breaches of security and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, indiscipline, and any unpatriotic behavior among its personnel.
Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, was noted for his commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethics within the Corps. The statement also highlighted that the NSCDC has continuously worked to enhance security by engaging in joint operations, training, and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies.
The Corps also urged media outlets to ensure accuracy in their reporting, warning that sensationalism and misrepresentation can damage public trust and tarnish the NSCDC’s reputation.
Despite these challenges, the NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s critical national assets, infrastructure, and the safety of its citizens with unwavering integrity and discipline.
