The Nigerian Youths for Atiku (NYFA) has called on Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), to cease attacking the reputation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The call was made by Mr. Dare Dada, the Director of Communications for NYFA (Nigeria & Diaspora), in a statement released on Friday in Lagos. Dada’s comments came in response to a recent media interview where Kwankwaso accused Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of spreading lies at the age of 80.
In the interview, Kwankwaso alleged that Abubakar’s camp had misled some Northern elders into believing that a pact had been made between him, Abubakar, and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, to rotate the presidency starting from 2027. Dada quickly dismissed the claim, stating that it was entirely untrue and that Atiku Abubakar was not an obstacle to Kwankwaso’s political ambitions.
“It is disappointing that someone of Kwankwaso’s stature would go to such lengths to denigrate the person of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, just to score cheap political points,” Dada said. “Atiku does not need validation from him to remain politically relevant in Nigeria.”
Dada further criticized Kwankwaso’s approach, calling it ridiculous and demeaning to engage in falsehoods simply for political advantage. He expressed concern that such attacks were harmful, especially during a period when opposition leaders should be focusing on strategies to unite and offer a better deal for Nigerians in the 2027 elections.
He urged opposition leaders to avoid divisive rhetoric, which could undermine national unity and progress. Instead, Dada emphasized that the youth of Nigeria were determined to champion integrity in politics and move away from deceit and manipulation.
“The youth are committed to ensuring that honesty and integrity triumph over lies and self-serving tactics,” Dada stated. “The NYFA remains steadfast in supporting visionary leaders like Atiku Abubakar, who prioritize the national development and welfare of Nigerians over personal ambitions.”
In conclusion, the youth leader urged Kwankwaso to redirect his focus on addressing the pressing issues facing Northern Nigeria, rather than engaging in baseless attacks against fellow political figures.
