Obasanjo committed big blunder endorsing Peter Obi: Sule Lamido
Former Jigawa governor, Sule Lamido, on Friday, said Peter Obi’s endorsement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo was “a big mistake.”
The former president on New Year day publicly endorsed Mr Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for next month’s general election. His decision has since drawn criticisms from his former party, PDP, upon which platform he served between 1999-2007.
Mr Lamido, who served as a foreign affairs minister under Mr Obasanjo’s administration, made the remarks while answering questions from reporters at Bamaina, his country home, near Birnin kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa.
“Obasanjo is my boss, I believe in him, but he is also a human being, he can make mistakes. So he made a mistake.
“It’s a big mistake for him to endorse a candidate outside his own party which gave him the relevance, the importance, the image globally to become what he is.
“You don’t do that because of the younger generation.
“Whatever he said, whether power rotation or power shift, whatever it is, people are being a little bit dishonest,” Mr Lamido said.
The former governor said that people failed to understand that when a party honoured them, dignified and made them who they were, they were expected to respect that party.
“So to me, Obasanjo or anybody else, he (Obasanjo), was talking because he was former Nigeria’s President, if he wasn’t, would he talk like this? Whatever he is saying now is because he is a Nigerian former President from PDP.
“So PDP invented and dignified him. So a leader is supposed to be inspiring, motivating and should be able to charter a new course for Nigeria so that his disciples will be able to carry on with that,” he said.

I agree with Sule Lamido to some extent. I’ll add that OBJ lacks the political rectitude to endorse any candidate in Nigeria because of his stinky political past as the president of the country from 1999 to 2007. By the way, who was OBJ endorsing Peter Obi for when he neither have disciples nor followers. We have the Awoists, we have the Zikists and we have the Amadu Bello followers then. Today, we have the Batified, the Atikulated, the Kwakwasiya, the Obidients etc. If such political we figures should endorse anybody right now then such endorsement has capacity to translate to electoral support at the polls. But a political lone ranger like OBJ only embarrass himself with his endorsement of a candidate when nobody is known to follow his political ideology which he never cared to disclose. If OBJ has confidence in his endorsement, why did he wait until new year day and long after he has seen that the other candidates didn’t accord him any relevance. OBJ is only trying to have a stranglehold on the Peter Obi’s presidency in case he will win and nothing more.
Mr laminido, please listen, this 2023, the Nigerian people are not voting based on party, we are voting candidates and future of our nation. We are tired of suffering and smiling in the name of party. I prayed seriously for Buhari to succeed Jonathan despite coming from the southern Nigeria, just because am Apc member, my family belong to Apc, what did the regime brought, so much hardship, sorrow and fear. So please we are tired of APC and PDP. We better follow one who is stingy, than following people so corrupt, people who will convert Nigerian government to their family business or people who will sell the nation using their dubious character, we don’t want people who carry our money in bullion vans to their homes, we don’t want people who will use secret companies to pack all our money. We want people who are accountable, we want educated people and not illiterate drug pushers. We the Nigerian youths are tired of being jobless and we watch these useless politicians and useless children waste our community waelth.
Lamido is one of the enemies of Nigeria. Obasenjo is not your boy to condescend to your level of cotemplation.
