Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has dismissed rumors that he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The rumors, which have been circulating in the state, claimed that Oborevwori had reached out to President Bola Tinubu regarding a possible defection. It was also alleged that the governor feared the APC in Delta State would not accept him.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor refuted these claims, labeling them as false and the product of opposition elements trying to destabilize his administration. Oborevwori emphasized that his focus remains on fulfilling his campaign promises under the MORE Agenda, which aims to address key issues in the state.
The rumors of Oborevwori’s alleged defection come at a time when the APC in Delta State has been sharply critical of his administration’s performance. The APC has accused the governor of failing to deliver on crucial promises, citing declining infrastructure, inadequate investment in education, and a lack of progress in the healthcare sector.
The APC, through its state Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, pointed to poor road conditions, particularly in rural areas, and the deterioration of schools as evidence of the governor’s underperformance. They also lamented the stagnation of key projects and the lack of tangible results despite the state receiving over N500 billion in federal allocations.
In response to the APC’s accusations, Oborevwori reiterated his commitment to collaborating with the federal government for the benefit of Delta State, urging the people to ignore the rumors. The governor’s office further stressed that his leadership would continue to focus on improving the welfare of Deltans.
The APC has called for urgent reforms, particularly in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, and has urged the governor to take immediate action to address these issues to avoid further despair among the state’s residents.
Efforts to reach the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, for further comment on the matter were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
