Ogbonnia Hopes for Ike Ekweremadu’s Swift Return After Wife’s Release
Alex Ogbonnia, the immediate past National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has expressed optimism that former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, will soon return to Nigeria following the release of his wife, Beatrice, from prison in the United Kingdom.
In a statement, Ogbonnia reacted to the news of Beatrice Ekweremadu’s return to Nigeria, following her release from prison. Both she and her husband, along with Dr. Obinna Obeta, were convicted by a UK court for their involvement in an organ harvesting scheme, which was related to procuring a kidney donor for their daughter, Sonia. Senator Ekweremadu was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Beatrice received a six-year sentence.
Ogbonnia described the return of Mrs. Ekweremadu as a moment of celebration, particularly in Enugu State, where they have had a significant impact. “It’s jubilation galore across Enugu State because they used their opportunities to touch lives, showcasing the quality they possess,” Ogbonnia remarked.
He went on to praise Senator Ekweremadu’s legacy, noting his exceptional representation of the people of Enugu West and his broader contributions to the state. “We pray that in no distant time, he will return to Nigeria to continue his good work,” Ogbonnia added.
